Training your dog

While you are waiting for your product to get to you, try some of these ideas to help minimize your dog's barking.

Don't yell at your dog to be quiet—it just sounds like you're barking along with him.

If your dog barks at people or animals passing by your front stop the behavior by closing the curtains.

If he is barking at people passing by and he likes being outside, make him come inside every time.

Here is a great wait to train your dog to go to his "bed" or place of your choice when someone is at your front door:

Every time the doorbell goes off, go to his bed and throw a treat on it.  Keep giving him the treat until the person comes into the house.  Pretty soon you will see your dog running to his bed when the doorbell goes off before you can get to the treats.

Next step is to get your dog to remain on the bed as you open the door.  Start by walking towards the door and if he gets up, tell him to a command to go back to his bed.  When you are able to reach the door, you will notice your dog will want to come to the door as soon as you open it.  Stop him by closing the door and telling him to go back to his place.

It may take several times before he stays in his bed, so you may what to get a friend to help you.

It is so worth all the work and training.  Imagine the next time someone is at your door your dog automatically goes to is place and waits until the person comes into the home.  Now that's a good dog!
